Competition | “Heroes Should Be Celebrated Within Light” (Platia Iroon)

Our proposal for the revitalization of Heroes Square (Platia Iroon) seeks to honor the rich heritage of Limassol’s historic Old Town while introducing a refined contemporary identity. The design is based on a carefully structured grid derived from the monument at the heart of the square, creating a sense of order, symmetry, and spatial clarity.

A modern lighting strategy defines the experience of the square, illuminating the pathways between green spaces and historic facades, reinforcing the idea that heroes should be celebrated within light. Beneath the square, an innovative smart pavilion becomes a dynamic cultural landmark, featuring advanced presentation technologies, including holographic installations, to narrate the history of the square and envision its future.

Thoughtfully integrated green spaces establish a balanced relationship between nature and urban life, transforming Heroes Square into a timeless civic destination for gathering, cultural exchange, reflection, and celebration.
